May 11-15
This week our theme is the ocean.
Do you like going to the beach? I love to lay on the sand, hear the waves and feel the sun on my face. Sometimes I imagine being under the water, floating back and forth with the current and the fish. As we start off the lesson with a meditation, I want you to think about either relaxing on the beach, or being a fish in the ocean, swimming in the reef and moving with the current. Here's a song from Finding Nemo that you can listen to during your meditation.
In order to love being in the water, you have to know how to swim!
This video will take you through exercises that will make you a better and stronger swimmer, even though you aren't actually in the water. Do the video lots of times this week to prepare for all the fun you'll have in the pool, lake or ocean this summer!
A game for your school of fish
Do you know what a group of fish is called? It's called a school, so when a group of fish swim together, they are known as school of fish. You and your family and friends, or your "school of fish", can all play this game together! We've played it during PE and recess many times, but we've called it Sharks and Minnows instead of Shark Attack. Either way it's the same game, so teach your friends and family how to play!
Finding Nemo
When Nemo's dad was traveling all the way to Australia to find his son, he saw many cool things and met a lot of creatures along the way. Now you can do your own Finding Nemo Scavenger Hunt! Try to find the things below in your own house, and make it an adventure! You can pretend that you are going through the adventure with Nemo's dad and act everything out like you saw in the movie. Just be sure to put everything back when you are done.
Your things to find are:
A shark
A snorkel mask
Jellyfish
A turtle
A seagull
A toothbrush
Good Luck Scavengers!
Dancing with Ariel
Now you get to listen to Sebastian sing about why living under the sea is so much better than living on land! You can even make it a freeze dance with your family if you want.
