Urban and Rural Hiking

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

Hi Friends!

I hope you are all healthy and happy while you are spending time at home. I do miss walking with you guys, and I am so excited for the day that we get to go out together again! In the meantime, I hope you are keeping up a habit of walking and talking with someone you feel comfortable with. Make sure you ask them interesting questions so that you can keep learning 3 new things!

It may seem like you are unable to continue with the requirements of this elective, but that’s not true!

Though you are limited, there are options for you to walk or even hike, according to your level of comfort in activities right now. 1. You can walk around your backyard. You can even decide on a path through the rooms of your house if you don’t have a yard or if the weather isn’t nice.

2. Walk around your block. If you are comfortable being outside, walking around your block or neighborhood can be great to get some fresh air and maintain energy by being outside and exercising.

3. Hike a trail! If you are comfortable taking to the trails, they can be a great place as well to boost your spirit and energy. Consider hiking Bells Canyon. It is a beautiful spot at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. It first leads up to a pond, though there isn’t a lot of water there right now. You can follow the path up to the Lower and Upper Falls, though that part of the trail is considered to be a “hard” hike. This trail is so beautiful as the snow melts and the wildflowers come out. Check out some pictures from the trail (these were taken back in the fall)

I hope you are able to get out in whatever way is appropriate for you and that you can still learn 3 new things each time you go on your walk! I would love to hear the things you learn about the people you walk with and see pictures of what you are doing.

Stay happy and healthy!
